MiracleI truly witnessed a miracle. My little granddaughter, Heather Fisher, was 5. She was fighting for her life in Scott and White hospital in Temple, Texas. The previous day had been a nightmare for her family. She had awaken one morning feverish and disoriented. The doctor said she had the flu and sent her home. But as the day wore on, she got worse. Shortly before midnight, her breathing was so difficult and her lips were turning blue. She was rushed to the hospital. Her kidneys and lungs had shut down, and her fever was 106.6. Her body was bright red, with purple lesions all over it. The doctors informed us that they did not know what was wrong, but she was dying. She was airlifted to Scott and White; the doctors there gave her no hope. They said she had toxic syndrome. By now it was Sunday morning, and word began to spread to friends and family from Florida to California to pray for Heather. We attended the Southwest Church of Christ in Waco. The elders held a special prayer service for her. I, her Papaw, had been praying non stop. Sometime around mid-morning, I was standing beside her bed still begging God to let her live, when suddenly a strong sense of peace filled me. I knew then everything was going to be all right. Her recovery was swift and complete. She was released from ICU in one week and from the hospital four days later. After her return, we would discover something unbelievable. We began to notice little things she was doing, such as staring out the window, waving and smiling. When asked who she was waving at, she would say. "The giant." Then the bombshell!! One Sunday morning at the table she looked at me and said, "Papaw, when I was in Heaven with the angels, I saw Bubba and he was an angel and he was a giant. He told me yesterday was his birthday. Was yesterday Bubba's birthday, Papaw?" Chills raced all over my body, and I begin to tremble. Bubba was a nickname for my son, Tim, who had been dead for 4 years. He died when Heather was one year old. She never knew him, and no one said anything about his birthday, as we were all so involved with her illness that it never even crossed our minds about his birthday. Heather is now a happy kindergarten student, a little more spoiled than most, and wise for her years. She has touched the hearts of many, and her story has been an inspiration to many. Did God really give her a preview of what is on the other side of death's door? Did she really walk with angels? Did Bubba really talk to her? I believe it is true. I believe God called her home, but changed His mind when someone touched Him in their prayers. She is living proof that God does answer prayers and work miracles. Heather turns 6 today!!!! [Juanita's Comments: When something happens and it is called a miracle and then man can explain it, it was not a Miracle from God. Heather experienced what cannot be explained, can only be said "It is a Miracle from the Living God." Oh, to Know a God that can do what no other power can do and to know He does it from a heart of Love, Mercy, Compassion and Forgiveness!!!] |
