There once was a mean rancher. One day, one of his hired hands was caught rustling cattle. The man was dragged, hog-tied, by the other cowboys to the rancher, who commanded, "Hang him! That'll teach him a lesson."
The years went by, and the mean rancher grew older, but no less mean.
The day finally came when the mean rancher faced his own judgement. As the angels dragged him to the Throne, he thought of all the mean things he had done, and he shook in his boots as he stood before the Judge.
The Great Judge called down his sentence: "Forgive him. That'll teach him a lesson."
