Read: Exodus 33:12-23
The front of my house faces eastward. Every morning my bedroom is flooded with the brilliance of the sun, welcoming me into a new day. If I time it just right, I can sit on the floor beside my bed and bask in the fullness of the sun's rays!
One morning I decided to do my prayer and praise in this position. Still in my pj's, I closed my eyes to pray. The intensity of the light through my shut eyelids was enormous. And it seemed to grow brighter and brighter with each passing moment. My skin was enveloped in soft warmth, almost like being wrapped in a baby's blanket. It was a most glorious experience! I felt so protected, so loved by the Lord as I sat there, thoroughly aware of His Presence. I felt that I had gotten a taste of His Glory!
Moses received a taste of the Lord's Glory as he was leading the people of Israel toward the promised inheritance. Camped at Mt. Sinai, he had a conversation with the Lord, seeking assurance that the Presence of the Lord was going with them on the journey. During their dialogue Moses requested to see the Glory of the Lord. God granted his request by showing him a "glimpse" of His Glory; for to behold the fullness of God in his mortal body would have caused Moses to perish (vs. 20b).
Like Moses we should hunger for the Presence of God in our lives. Yes, as Christians, we know that His Spirit dwells within us. But we should also yearn for a continued awareness of His activity in our daily existence. Our hearts should ache to touch Him, to hear His voice and experience Him moment by moment. We should ask, as Moses, to see His Glory - to discern His Presence in the mundane of life. We should desire for Him to reveal Himself to us, as much as we can handle without perishing.
Let's purpose to be a people who long for the Presence of our God. Let us be among those passionately in love with Him, whose cry is "show me Your Glory." In other words, "Lord, I want more of You!"
Prayer
Father, in the Name of Jesus, my soul thirsts for You. I long to hear Your voice speaking my name. I yearn for a perpetual awareness of Your Presence. Grant me discernment to see Your Glory in ordinary situations. You are an awesome God. Amen.
