Read: Deuteronomy 6 and Hebrews 3:10-11
It has been one year since the first issue of Encouraging Word was electronically transmitted into your hands and, I pray, into your heart. Anniversaries are an excellent time for reflection. The Lord has given us much to ponder in these past twelve months. Our walk with Him has been challenged in numerous ways. We have been encouraged, reminded, enlightened, rebuked, refreshed, guided, warned, but most of all, loved by our Creator. He knows us through and through. How accurate and timely His words were to us from month to month! Yes, we have quite an album of memories.
Deuteronomy 6 shows us the spiritual significance of remembering the deeds of the Lord. First, His deeds are evidence of His faithfulness. God had promised Abraham hundreds of years earlier that He would make him a great nation. In the process, however, his ancestry would be slaves in a foreign nation. But God would deliver them. The Lord kept His promise (vs. 21). Second, His deeds are a testimony of His power. Before their eyes, the Israelites witnessed numerous signs and wonders against Pharaoh and the Egyptians, as well as God's supernatural provision for them in the wilderness journeys (vs. 22). Third, remembering His deeds causes us to reverence His authority. He is jealous over us and will not tolerate a divided heart (vs. 15). Finally, remembering His deeds will cause us to love Him more and more. We are ever reminded of how He's brought us through (vs. 21), what He's delivered us from (vs. 22), and where He's promised to take us (vs. 23).
As we close out the year and anticipate walking through a new year together, let's pause for a moment to remember what God has done for us since last November. Write it down, talk about it with family and friends, and, most importantly, thank the Lord for the glorious deeds He performed in your life!
Prayer
Father, in Jesus' name we give you thanks for Your awesome Presence in our lives. We rejoice over the deeds You have performed for us. Help us to be constantly aware of Your handiwork, whatever form it may take. Teach us to love You with all our heart, soul and strength. Amen.
